this weekend i finally went back to punta de mita, the spot where i lost my fingertip about five months ago. it was actually kind of traumatic to walk down to where all the little boats were docked again; i definitely made sure not to put my hands anywhere near anything resembling the side of a boat this time.

we went snorkeling, saw a humpback whale (it's prime whale-watching time now) and fishies (they swam all around us 'cause our guide threw animal crackers out to them), dave and his friend dove off rocky cliffs into the ocean, and we just plain hung out on the coral-sand beach on one of the islands. it was niiice. definitely an emotional contrast to my last visit there. our guide also found me a small friend--pictures here.

what else...oh, some of you may have heard me rambling about how dave and i wanted to find a venue that would let us spin our indie tunes once a week. vallarta is seriously lacking a place that plays music other than top-40 r&b/hip-hop interspersed w/ throbbingly repetitive techno beats, and we miss listening to stuff other than that. one of our students' fathers owns a bar on the malecon, and he said we could pick any day we want to dj, other than friday or saturday. i'm really looking fwd to this! we're thinking of doing it on a wednesday or thurs, and calling it "headphone junkies." it'll be an alternative to the meatmarket-y dance clubs in the area for the throngs of tourists currently swarming the town, in case they ever get sick of the stereotypical resort town experience. but even if only our friends show up, i still think it'll be awesome. it'll certainly be a heck of a lot more fun than just me and dave blasting "left of center" from his sirius satellite while driving around in his car. i'll keep y'all posted.
